Assam Government to Implement Justice Biplab Sarma Committee Recommendations on Clause 6 of Assam Accord
Guwahati, September 25, 2024: In a significant development, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma led a meeting with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leadership. The focus was on the recommendations made by the Justice (Retd) Biplab Sarma Committee regarding the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
The Assam Government has committed to implementing these recommendations, with a total of 52 in focus. Among these, 40 recommendations fall directly under the state’s jurisdiction. A clear roadmap has been established for their implementation.
However, 12 recommendations will require approval from the Government of India. Additionally, 15 recommendations are exclusively under the purview of the central government. The Assam Government plans to address these matters with the Centre at an appropriate forum.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that the state government will request discussions with the Centre and AASU about the 15 recommendations that require Union government involvement. This collaborative approach aims to ensure the effective implementation of all 52 recommendations proposed by the committee.
The commitment to these recommendations reflects Assam’s dedication to upholding the promises made in the Assam Accord. The state government is focused on fostering dialogue and cooperation to address the concerns raised by the AASU and the wider community.
As the process unfolds, the Assam Government remains optimistic about achieving the goals set forth by the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee, furthering the state’s progress and addressing its citizens’ needs.
