Assam Tea Celebrates 200 Glorious Years at Summer Fancy Food Show 2025 in New York

July 01, 2025: In a landmark event that celebrates the legacy and global appeal of Assam Tea, the 200-year milestone of this iconic beverage was commemorated at the prestigious Summer Fancy Food Show 2025 in New York. This momentous occasion was marked by the inauguration of the India Pavilion by Dr. Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, in collaboration with Binaya Srikant Pradhan, Consul General of India in New York.

The celebration highlighted Assam Tea as more than just a beverage — it is a symbol of heritage, strength, and enduring flavour. The bicentennial tribute underscored the significance of Assam Tea in shaping India’s global agro-export identity and spotlighted the resilience and dedication of generations of tea growers from Assam.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Ravi Kota expressed pride in Assam’s rich tea legacy and emphasized its continued contribution to India’s economy and global recognition. “Assam Tea is not only a product of our soil but also a reflection of our culture, tradition, and the hardworking spirit of our people. This 200-year journey deserves global celebration,” he said.

Consul General Shri Binaya Srikant Pradhan highlighted the importance of such platforms in enhancing India’s trade footprint and promoting indigenous products. “The Summer Fancy Food Show provides an ideal stage to present Assam Tea to a discerning international audience. It’s a proud moment for all Indians,” he noted.

The India Pavilion featured a diverse range of premium teas, including heritage Assam orthodox, CTC, and specialty blends, offering global buyers a taste of Assam’s finest. Attendees included global food importers, hospitality brands, trade delegates, and tea connoisseurs who applauded the enduring appeal of Assam Tea.

As Assam celebrates this historic milestone, the state reiterates its commitment to expanding the global footprint of its tea industry, upholding sustainable practices, and preserving the legacy of a product that has delighted palates worldwide for two centuries.
