Traffic Restrictions Announced in Guwahati for Durga Puja Idol Immersion
Guwahati: The Guwahati Traffic Police, under the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), has issued a press release detailing the traffic restrictions for the smooth and safe movement of idol-carrying vehicles during the immersion of Goddess Durga. These restrictions are set to be enforced on October 12 and 13, 2024, during the Dashami (immersion) day, across key immersion points such as Lachit Ghat and Pandu Port.
The announcement is aimed at ensuring the safety of vulnerable road users, including children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals, and to prevent congestion on the city’s main thoroughfares.
Traffic Arrangements at Kachomari IWT Ghat, Fancy Bazar
According to the press release, the following restrictions will be in place from 10 AM on October 12, 2024, until the completion of idol immersion:
1. Movement of Idol-Carrying Vehicles Towards Lachit Ghat:
– From Chandmari Side: Idol-carrying vehicles will be regulated near Guwahati Club and diverted via MC Road (Baruwari), FC Road, High Court East, MG Road, and Lachit Ghat.
– From Tokobari, Paltanbazar, Ulubari, Rehbari, and Surrounding Areas: Vehicles will take routes through Arya Nagar, A.K. Azad Road, Nepali Mandir, Godhuli Bazar, Vishal Point, Panbazar ROB, GNB Road, KLB Road, and Lachit Ghat.
– From Kumarpura and Lalganesh Areas: The traffic will be directed via Bishnupur Road, Arya Nagar, A.K. Azad Road, and Nepali Mandir before reaching the Lachit Ghat via MG Road.
– From Ulubari and South Sarania Areas: The vehicles will move through GS Road, Apsara, Janata Point, Nepali Mandir, and similar routes toward Lachit Ghat.
– From Rajgarh, Bhangagarh, and Christian Basti: Idol-carrying vehicles will proceed via GS Road, Rajgarh Road, Chandmari, MC Road, FC Road, and Lachit Ghat.
– From Ganeshguri, Dispur, and Kahilipara Areas: These vehicles will move via RG Baruah Road, GNB Road, and Lachit Ghat.
– Exit Route After Immersion: Once the idols have been immersed, vehicles will exit via MG Road, DG Road, or AT Road.
2. Movement of Other Vehicles:
– No vehicles will be allowed to enter MC Road, GNB Road, KLB Road, or MG Road from Chandmari after 10 AM.
– Vehicles moving from Jalukbari will be diverted toward B. Baruah Road, Ulubari underpass, or FA Road.
– Vehicles from Uzanbazar and Noonmati will be diverted via Lamb Road, GNB Road, and TC Point.
Traffic Arrangements at Pandu Port
For the immersion at Pandu Port, the following regulations will be in place:
– No idol-carrying vehicles will be allowed to enter from Maligaon Chariali toward Pandu.
– Vehicles carrying idols will be directed to use the Adabari Tiniali route to reach Pandu Port immersion ghat.
– After immersion, vehicles will only be allowed to move via Sadilapur No. 6 Colony and towards Jalukbari.
– Vehicles moving from Bharalumukh and Fatasil areas will be diverted toward AT Road and DG Road before heading to Pandu Port.
These traffic measures are crucial to prevent overcrowding on Guwahati’s roads during the busy festive season and ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers alike. Citizens are advised to follow the traffic rules and avoid restricted routes to prevent inconvenience.
