Assam Police Arrest Seven, Seize Large Quantity of Drugs in Barak Valley Operations
Silchar, June 02, 2024: In a decisive move against drug trafficking, seven individuals have been arrested and a significant quantity of contraband drugs seized in separate operations across Assam’s Barak Valley. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the successful operations on Sunday.
The raids were carried out on Saturday, based on robust intelligence inputs, as shared by the Chief Minister on social media. Karimganj Police raided a shop, seizing nearly 800 kg of Ganja and arresting one person. In Cachar district, police conducted two operations, resulting in the seizure of 1.9 kg of heroin and the apprehension of six individuals.
“These operations and seizures are weakening the drug nexus in the state,” Chief Minister Sarma stated. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and protecting the youth from its harmful effects.
In a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sarma emphasized the relentless campaign against the drug menace. He highlighted the government’s dedication to dismantling the network of contraband substances that continue to endanger society.
