21kg Heroin Seized in Silchar: A Significant Step Towards a Drug-Free Assam
Desk Report, April 05, 2024: In a significant stride towards combating the menace of drug trafficking, Assam has taken a decisive step towards eradicating narcotics from its streets. The collaborative efforts of the Special Task Force (STF) Assam and Cachar Police yielded a substantial breakthrough in Silchar, as they successfully seized a staggering 21 kilograms of heroin, valued at an estimated Rs 210 crore.
Under the astute leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Parthasarathi Mahanta and Superintendent of Police (SP), Cachar District Numal Mahatta, the operation unfolded near Saidpur, within the purview of the Silchar Police Station.
Acting on intelligence provided, the vigilant team intercepted a Breeza car en route from Aizawl. Upon thorough inspection, the STF and Cachar Police uncovered the concealed contraband stashed within the car’s trunk, ingeniously camouflaged beneath layers of bread and biscuits.
The meticulous efforts of the Special Task Force and Cachar Police officers culminated in the apprehension of an individual identified as Laldinuwa, hailing from Mizoram. This apprehension marks a significant milestone in the relentless pursuit of curbing illicit drug trade within the region.
