Dhubri Forest Cracks Down on Illegal Sawmill in Boalkamri

Dhubri, May 24, 2025: In a strong message against forest-related crimes, the newly joined Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dhubri Division, Golap Kumar Bania, has taken swift and decisive action within days of assuming charge. In a major crackdown on illegal timber activities, forest officials dismantled an unauthorized band saw mill operating in Boalkamri Part II under Nayarhat Police Out Post.

Acting on a tip-off and under the direct instruction of DFO Bania, a forest team led by Sahabaz Sultan, In-Charge of the Sapatgram Forest Depot, conducted a successful raid. The illegal sawmill, which was used to process round logs without any valid documents, was immediately dismantled and seized.

The operation highlights the proactive stance of the Dhubri Forest Division in curbing illegal deforestation and timber smuggling in the region. Sources within the department revealed that the sawmill had been functioning covertly for some time, posing a serious threat to forest conservation efforts.

This is the first major operation under the leadership of DFO Bania, who has signaled a no-tolerance policy against illegal forest activities. Officials have confirmed that further investigations are ongoing, and more such operations can be expected in the coming days.

Local residents have welcomed the action, hoping it will lead to better protection of forest resources and stricter enforcement against environmental crimes.
