Assam Cabinet Extends Apun Ghar and Apun Bahan Scheme Benefits to PSU and Contractual Employees

Assam Cabinet Approves Extension of Apun Ghar and Apun Bahan Scheme Benefits to PSU and Contractual Employees

Guwahati; May 11, 2025: In a significant move aimed at broadening the scope of state welfare initiatives, the Assam Cabinet has approved the extension of benefits under the Apun Ghar and Apun Bahan Schemes to a wider section of employees. The decision is set to impact thousands of regular and contractual staff engaged with state public sector undertakings (PSUs) and government organizations.

The Cabinet has greenlighted a proposal to expand the Apun Ghar Scheme’s reach by including both regular employees of notified PSUs and contractual employees of State Government Organizations. The key feature of the scheme includes a loan threshold of up to ₹30 lakh, aimed at enabling eligible employees to purchase or construct their own homes.

Importantly, this extension will benefit only those employees whose services are officially recognized or “notified” and continue until the age of 60 years. The move aligns with the government’s objective to facilitate housing access for middle and lower-income groups employed in the public sector.

Alongside housing, the state government has also focused on improving mobility for its workforce. The Cabinet has approved the extension of the Apun Bahan Scheme for the financial year 2025–26. Similar to the Apun Ghar initiative, this scheme will now cover both regular and contractual employees working in notified PSUs and government institutions.

The Apun Bahan Scheme enables eligible employees to avail of financial assistance or loans for purchasing vehicles, thereby addressing commuting challenges and enhancing overall employee welfare.

These decisions reflect the Assam government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring inclusive growth and welfare support for its workforce. By including contractual workers alongside regular employees, the Cabinet has recognized the significant contributions of temporary staff, offering them long-term incentives and stability.
