APDCL Bribery Scandal: Two Employees Caught Red-Handed in Corruption Sting
Desk Report, May 11, 2024: In a significant development, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, has successfully apprehended two individuals involved in a bribery scandal within the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).
Mintu Bora, identified as a middleman, was caught accepting bribes at Geruamukh, Nagaon. This illicit activity was part of a broader conspiracy with Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, a Bill Clerk and Meter Reader at APDCL. Their aim was to provide relief to a complainant facing fines for electricity bypass connections.
In a coordinated operation, Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, stationed at the Nagaon Electrical Sub-Division of APDCL, was also apprehended at Maz Pathari, Borghat, Nagaon. Sarma’s involvement included soliciting and accepting bribes through the intermediary, Mintu Bora, revealing the depth of corruption within the organization.

Both Mintu Bora and Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma have been arrested for violating the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. They will be transported to Guwahati under the custody of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption for further legal proceedings.
