Abhayapuri Forest Team Dismantles Illegal Saw Mill in Chedamari

Guwahati, August 14: The Forest Department in Abhayapuri has dismantled an illegal saw mill in the Chedamari area of Bongaigaon district. Acting on a tip-off, the operation was carried out under the instructions of Divisional Forest Officer Khanindra Kalita of the Aie Valley Division.

A team led by the Range Officer of Abhayapuri Range conducted the raid on Wednesday night at Parlirtol, under Jogighopa Police Station. During the operation, officials discovered the saw mill being used to cut timber without authorisation.

The equipment, including illegal saw mill was seized and moved to safe custody. Authorities confirmed the mill had been engaged in processing illegally sourced timber.

Forest officials have stepped up vigilance in the region to curb timber smuggling. They also urged the public to report any suspicious activity to help protect the area’s forest resources.
